Who Should Get This Brew. Share. Enjoy. Beer Kit?

Assuming that you are a beginner who is completely starting from scratch, this kit includes a few items that are usually not found in other “starter” kits. As soon as you open the box, you can immediately start making beer.
This all-inclusive starter beer kit had the price point we were looking for, and included everything needed to start brewing right out of the
Why We Picked This Brew. Share. Enjoy. Kit As Our Favorite
To make beer, there are basically four steps that need to be taken before you can actually drink and enjoy your finished beer, no matter what style you decide to brew.
- Wort Production (Boiling & Cooling)
- Fermentation (Primary and/or Secondary)
- Bottling: Conditioning & Carbonatiom
A good starter kit should include everything you need to start brewing beer immediately right from the box. We don’t think a starter kit should leave out any equipment that a new homebrewer might not have laying around the house.
When someone is new to beer brewing, the last thing they want to do is start the brew day and realize they are missing an important piece of brewing equipment.
Large Brewing Kettle and Long Stirring Spoon
What gave this kit an advantage over other similar items is the large stainless steel brewing kettle and the long stirring spoon that comes included with this homebrew starter kit. These are two items that usually are not included in other brewing kits.
I’m sure that most people already have some sort of stock pot and utensils already in their kitchen, but many people don’t have a pot that will hold 5-gallons of liquid, and a long enough spoon to stir the wort without getting their hand so close to the boiling wort. Besides, it probably best to keep all your brewing equipment separate from all of your regular kitchen items.
If you factor in the cost of purchasing a large enough stock pot to brew 5-gallons of beer and a long stainless steel stirring spoon separately, you really can’t get a better value for the total price of this kit.
Another great thing that comes with this kit is the auto-siphon instead of a racking cane that is used for transferring the wort and beer from one vessel to another. When it’s time to move your beer from the fermenter to the bottling bucket, the use of an auto-siphon makes the entire process a breeze.
A hydrometer is a piece of equipment that brewers use to measure the relative density of liquids. In the case of beer brewing, a hydrometer is used to measure the original gravity (OG) of the wort before fermentation begins.
Even though additional readings can be taken during the active fermentation process to check the fermentation process, it is also taken at the end of fermentation to get a final gravity reading (FG) which you can then get the ABV of your beer.
Although a hydrometer is not needed to brew beer, especially if you are using a pre-measured beer ingredient kit, you will want to eventually get one if you plan on checking the alcohol by volume (ABV) of your finished beer on future brews.
Another thing that is missing is an accurate thermometer. It’s important that the temperature of the water is in a specific range when steeping the grains. It is also important that the boiling wort is cooled to a temperature range before pitching the yeast.
In the instructions that Northern Brewer provides with this kit, the directions that are given are based off of time instead of an actual temperature reading, so a thermometer is not needed at this time.

What Is Not Included
It’s very rare that any beer kit would come with beer bottles already included as part of the kit.
Many homebrewers have a preference when it comes to drinking their beer. Some like to use 12oz long-neck bottles, some prefer a 16oz or 750ml bottle, while others like to drink from a keg and stay away from the bottles altogether.
Beer Ingredient Kit Choices
When you order your beer kit, you get to choose from two different beer recipes. The two basic ingredient kits are the Block Party Amber, and Hank’s Hefeweizen.
Keeping Your Equipment Clean
No matter if it is a large mega brewery, a smaller microbrewery, or your personal home brewery in your kitchen, cleanliness and sanitation is the most important part of the brewing process.
To avoid off flavors in your next brew, you must keep everything clean and stored properly to avoid bacteria and mold. The parts in this kit are made to be used often, but there will be times when you have to replace pieces that just wear out, or break.
But by taking the time to do these few things after every brew, this Northern Brewer beer kit will last you for many brewing sessions and many years to come.
